Prolonged stays: Starting pitcher Jeremy Bonderman and reliever Joel Zumaya, both on the 15-day disabled list because of shoulder setbacks, will continue throwing in Lakeland. Zumaya is closer to being activated, and said he will throw twice more here before going to Erie or Toledo for the rest of his work on back-to-back days. "It's just a matter of getting over a hump," Zumaya said. "I threw two innings the other day and was just fine, with my velocity in the high 90s. My arm is feeling great."
All-righty then: Leyland said he can't remember having an all-right-handed starting pitcher rotation -- which is the case this year with Justin Verlander, Edwin Jackson, Zach Miner,
Rick Porcello and Armando Galarraga.
Throwing heat: Cody Satterwhite, last year's second-round pick from the University of Mississippi, pitched a scoreless ninth inning to get the save in an 8-5 Detroit win Thursday against Toronto. His fastball consistently hit 97 or 98 mph, matching the velocity of Tigers rookie Ryan Perry, the club's first-rounder in 2008. "I did not know he was quite that good," Leyland said, "and he threw a nasty slider. That's 192 mph of fastballs from those two guys."
