The AL Central leaders were rained out for the third time in a week Saturday when their doubleheader with the Detroit Tigers was postponed - the second washout in as many days.

Friday night's rainout had forced the teams to try and play a standard doubleheader Saturday. Now they'll attempt to get in some ball during a split twinbill Sunday. Only one catch - the remnants of Hurricane Ike are supposed to reach the Upper Midwest by Sunday.

"You got to keep moving on. Come back here and be ready to play a doubleheader again," said Chicago's Nick Swisher, who had big plans with his free time. He was going to watch his alma mater, Ohio State, play Southern California in football.

"We'll just go home and kind of have like an almost a full off day. And relax. ... I'm going to go in front of the couch and watch football all day. That's where I'll be if you need me," Swisher said with a laugh as he headed out of the clubhouse.

The projected matchups for Sunday will have Detroit's Justin Verlander - Friday's scheduled starter - going against Javier Vazquez in the afternoon. Tigers veteran Kenny Rogers will face John Danks, who was also supposed to start Friday, in the nightcap.

Vazquez was supposed to pitch on three days' rest Saturday and now he gets a little more time off.

"I don't know if that's good or bad because I changed my program just to pitch on three days' rest, not four days' rest," he said. "My arm feels good and it will feel good tomorrow. No big deal."

What if he doesn't get a chance to pitch Sunday?

"It will feel good Monday, too," he said.

The White Sox, who were also rained out last Monday night before coming back Tuesday and losing a doubleheader to Toronto, are trying to take a philosophical approach to what could become a backlog of games in the final two weeks, which includes a 10-game road trip.

They led the Twins by a game in the AL Central headed into Saturday.

"It's part of nature. A lot of teams are going through it right now," Vazquez said. "Hopefully we'll play tomorrow and not think about it too much, I guess. ... It's important, but like I said we can't do anything about it, can't complain or anything."

Manager Ozzie Guillen said the extra rest might be good for his pitching staff right now. But it could catch up with the White Sox, especially if they get rained out again.

"Maybe we have some rest right now, but at the end of the season it might be tough because we got to play doubleheaders and all this stuff. You don't know how many doubleheaders we're going to play," Guillen said. "You don't know what's going to happen."

Notes: White Sox 3B Joe Crede's locker was cleaned out. Crede, a free agent after this season, has been sidelined by a sore back and was scheduled to get a second opinion in Dallas next week. Guillen said earlier he didn't expect Crede to play again this season. ... Guillen said he's hoping 1B Paul Konerko, who sprained a knee ligament during Tuesday's doubleheader, will be able to play when the White Sox go to New York next week. ... Tigers 3B/C Brandon Inge won't be with the Tigers on Sunday after the death of his grandfather. Inge is scheduled to fly to the funeral and will then try to rejoin the team before Monday night's game in Texas. ... Steve Stone has agreed to a six-year contract to become the analyst on White Sox telecasts beginning next season. He is currently in his first year as the team's radio color analyst. He spent two decades working in the Cubs broadcast booth working alongside Harry Caray and Chip Caray until 2004. Stone will work alongside play-by-play man Hawk Harrelson. The White Sox did not exercise their 2009 option on current TV color analyst Darrin Jackson. He has been offered the analyst's role on the team's radio broadcasts but has yet to make a decision.
