DETROIT (AP) - The Tigers avoided salary arbitration with Ramon Santiago, agreeing Friday to an $825,000, one-year contract.
The 29-year-old Santiago batted .282 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 58 games with Detroit last season.He can earn additional money in performance bonuses.
Detroit declined to offer a 2009 contract to Aquilino Lopez, making the right-hander a free agent. Lopez was 4-1 with a 3.55 ERA in 48 relief appearances.
