Post-game notes
Apr. 19, 2009 (The Seattle Times delivered by Newstex ) --

Mariners starter Erik Bedard struck out eight batters and now ranks second in the American league with 23. He has struck out at least seven in each of his three starts.

Catcher Rob Johnson's attempted steal of second base in the eighth-inning is part of the Mariners' plan to be more aggressive on the base paths.

"When guys are extremely slow to the plate, we'll take a chance," manager Don Wakamatsu said after the game.

Johnson said that Edwin Jackson's delivery to the plate was taking 1.45 to 1.5 seconds.

"I know I'm not a blazer-blazer, but I can run a little bit," Johnson said. "I thought I had that base stolen. Obviously, it's critiqued a little bit more because it's late in the game, but he ended up getting a good pitch to throw me out on."

Johnson said he thought Jackson's first pitch to Franklin Gutierrez was going to be a sinker, and a lot of times that pitch ends up in the dirt.

"He ended up throwing his fastball," Johnson said.

Gutierrez walked, and then Mark Seay entered the game and struck out Ichiro to end the game.
