Miner dropped from rotation
DETROIT -- Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland defended his starting pitcher, Zach Miner, after Monday's 10-6 loss to the Chicago White Sox, calling the conditions he pitched in the worst this season.

Tuesday, Leyland took the right-hander out of the starting rotation. At least for now.

With two off days in the next six days, the Tigers shifted their rotation by skipping Miner. He also will likely be skipped next week.

The Tigers' clubhouse was closed to the media after the postponement of Tuesday's game with the White Sox because of inclement weather.

Miner (1-1) gave up three home runs and eight earned runs in 3 1/3 innings of work Monday.

He had a solid start on opening weekend in Toronto, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and one run in a 5-1 victory against the Blue Jays.

All players wear '42'

As part of Jackie Robinson Day today, Major League Baseball announced all players, coaches and umpires will wear number 42 to honor the enduring impact of Robinson and the history he made when he broke the color barrier in 1947.
