1972: Washington's Steve Hawes grabbed 28 rebounds in the Huskies' 91-81 victory over California in Berkeley. Hawes' total was two shy of the school record set by Ed Correll against Oregon in 1962. 1984: The Raiders shattered Seattle's dream of going to the Super Bowl with a 30-14 victory in the AFC Championship Game at the Los Angeles Coliseum before 88,734 fans. Jim Zorn threw two touchdown passes for Seattle.
1988: Former Mariners pitcher Gaylord Perry joined Rod Carew and Ferguson Jenkins in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Perry won his 300th game while pitching for the Mariners in 1982.
1992: The Los Angeles Rams hired recently fired Seahawks coach Chuck Knox as their new head coach. Knox, who left the Seahawks on Dec. 27, 1991, first coached the Rams in the 1970s.
