--RF Magglio Ordonez is still looking for his first extra-base hit of the season. Ordonez's seven-game hitting streak was snapped Thursday. He isn't trying to mash everything, preferring instead to take outside pitches to right or hit up the middle.
--CF Curtis Granderson had two hits Thursday night and left Anaheim with a .375 career batting average there. Granderson went 7-for-11 in the three games, including singles his first two times up Thursday. He has begun laying off bad pitches and as a result, his offensive contributions are increasing.
--C Matt Treanor caught Thursday night to get C Gerald Laird some rest for the weekend series in Kansas City. Treanor went 0-for-2 and is 0-for-13 this season. Laird is likely to catch rookie RHP Rick Porcello on Friday night.
--OF Josh Anderson played left field Thursday night with Carlos Guillen shifting to designated hitter. Anderson went 1-for-4, and his speed enabled him to score one of the Tigers' five runs.
--RHP Joel Zumaya will be activated from the disabled list by the Tigers either Saturday or Sunday in Kansas City, manager Jim Leyland announced Thursday. There was no decision announced as to who would be trimmed from the roster to make room for Zumaya, who pitched back-to-back games for Class AAA Toledo and gave up just one baserunner in his two innings. "They say he's ready for the big leagues," Leyland said. "He had good velocity and a pretty good breaking ball." Leyland said Zumaya would work in the late innings but did not specify which inning. Zumaya is coming back from a sore shoulder muscle.
--3B Brandon Inge hit his sixth home run of the season Thursday night and second in two games at Anaheim. But trying to live up to his image as a flashy glove man cost Inge an error that contributed to three Los Angeles runs in the sixth. Inge backhanded a ball diving to the dirt and tried to make a throw from near the line without getting to his feet. The throw sailed past 1B Miguel Cabrera.
