DH Gary Sheffield (strained left oblique muscle) went on the 15-day disabled list May 27.

RHP Joel Zumaya (right shoulder AC joint surgery) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list. He threw off a mound May 1 for the first time since the surgery, and hit 98 mph on the radar gun during an extended spring training game May 23. He threw again May 26 and hit 95 mph. There still was no timetable for his return.

RHP Fernando Rodney (right shoulder tendinitis) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list. He threw a bullpen session May 1, his first since a visit with Dr. James Andrews on April 16 determined there was nothing major wrong with his arm. He threw in extended spring training on May 23 and May 26.

LHP Clay Rapada (biceps tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list May 21.

RHP Denny Bautista (right shoulder tendinitis) went on the 15-day disabled list May 3. He experienced more shoulder soreness while playing catch May 13. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Toledo on May 24.

C Vance Wilson (Tommy John surgery in June 2007) opened the season on the 15-day disabled list. In late April, he was struggling with plantar fasciitis, which was slowing his potential return. In mid-May, he resumed baseball activities, but he had a setback in extended spring training.
