If right-hander Joel Zumaya is returning to the roster this weekend, somebody has to go.

Just who that somebody is probably will be a topic of discussion between manager Jim Leyland and general manager Dave Dombrowski over the next few days.

The candidate list is not a short one.

Safe are right-hander Fernando Rodney and left-hander Bobby Seay. No one else is completely secure.

Righty Ryan Perry could be optioned back, a convenient move because he's a rookie and he needs experience. But considering the fact Perry can overpower his mistakes, he's likely to stay. His ERA is 1.93.

Righty Brandon Lyon would be a candidate, but he's been endorsed as the setup man by pitching coach Rick Knapp. And he's got a guaranteed contract. Scratch that option.

Lefty Nate Robertson also has a guaranteed contract -- for this year and next. He's done a good job in long relief, too.

Righty Zach Miner rejoins the rotation Saturday. In addition, Miner can both start and relieve. He's staying.

That leaves righty Juan Rincon, who became a good-luck charm and got a win Wednesday when he allowed a run in relief and then saw his teammates score five to erase a deficit.

Rincon is the top candidate, also because he does not have a guaranteed contract.

There's another option: Someone could come up with a sore arm and go on the disabled list. That would give the Tigers time to see if they can deal one of the relievers to another club.

ANGELS 10, TIGERS 5: Detroit stumbled and bumbled its way to its second loss in three games in Anaheim. The Tigers made four errors, and their pitchers allowed 14 hits and three walks to square the team's record at 3-3 on the current road trip.

3B Brandon Inge hit his sixth home run of the season and second in as many games, while 1B Miguel Cabrera had an infield RBI single in the second. CF Curtis Granderson walked with the bases loaded in the seventh, and 2B Placido Polanco followed with a two-run single.
